Heart 2 Home is pleased to announce we are joining forces with the great folks in South Summit in bringing Porter home. Porter Hancock was injured in a football game in October and has been Hospitalized since then. Next week he comes home! The community has come together to build him a home that is wheel chair accessible they have asked us to help with some of the decor. We will be posting a wish list of items. If you would like to donate we have people who can put it up or if you would like to get involved for a day or two we can keep you busy.   We need your help! We have the opportunity to give 40 deserving families a very memorable Christmas! If you would like to be involved, please look at our families listed, pick one and let us know which family you are willing to help. Keep in mind, all are single moms so there is no need for father gifts. All gifts must be wrapped with a temporary tag (ie boy 8) with the family number easily visible. We will be throwing a Christmas party for the families where Santa will be giving them their gifts.  We are still in the planning stages for this event but will post as soon as possible. It's day 4 of makeover week! It's getting close! We have both the Terry Family & the Robert's Family home makeovers underway. Day 1 Terry Family Makeover

Makeover week is now in full swing! Volunteers have been working hard since 6am tearing out carpet, cabinets and walls in the Terry Home at 180 N 860 E in American Fork. Thank you to all who are helping in every way from labor, feeding the volunteers and donating to the families. This is going to be great and we will keep you updated as best as we can! Heart 2 Home is beginning a home remodel project next week. (May 23rd to May 28th). We are looking for volunteers to help out on the project in American Fork. The biggest need is for 6-8 volunteers bright and early Monday (May 23rd) morning at 6am. They will be involved in demolition! There are some walls that will need to come down and a kitchen from 1960 that will be removed from the home. If you have any interest to help, Monday morning, or throughout the week, please email me at kroberts@titlewest.com.

We are excited to announce 2 upcoming makeovers that will be done may 23rd through the 27th. The Roberts makeover will be headed by Tiffany Berg and the Terry Makeover will be headed by Greg Adamson.
Let's get to know these families!

Corey and Leisha Roberts have 3 children, two boys and a girl. The boys both have Duchesne Muscular Dystrophy. It is the most severe strain of the brutal disease. It strikes young people deteriorating the muscle and most do not live to their twenties. The two boys are both in wheelchairs and have to be physically picked up to transfer them from their wheel chair to shower chair. The task has become more difficult as the boys have got older and bigger. Their dad Corey has had back problems and their mom is tiny. It is a two person job to move the kids anywhere. Heart 2 Home will install and track system in the home to help get the boys from their bed to the bathroom. The system will allow mobility and give the parents back a break from lifting.

Heart 2 Home also has a few other surprises for the family to help the family.

Tentative Construction Schedule:
May 23-24- Room Demo, Mike McDonald is the contractor who will oversee the install of the tracking system. Heart 2 Home will have volunteers for him.

24-27 Heart 2 Home will have access to the boy’s rooms and the yard of the home

Katie Terry is a single mother of two children, Carter is 9, and Kindra is 7. They currently live in American Fork, Utah.
Nine years ago, Katie was in an auto accident that left her paralyzed from the hips down...and they discovered she was pregnant with Kindra. It took some time learning how to "re-live" again, one day at a time, but she did it. It was then that she realized in the ability within her disability and that she could be an example of dedication, commitment, endurance, and hard work. And doing it with a fun and positive attitude.

We wanted to get involved with Katie for a couple reasons. First she is a giver and gets involved in every project she can. She works hard and never complains. She lives in an older style home and one that is not conducive to being in a wheel chair. Her bathroom is tiny and every time she gets in the shower it a twenty minute ordeal to transfer from wheel chair to shower chair.

The goal in her home is to make it more wheel chair accessible, by improving the shower area and expanding areas within her home to make it better fit her.

To Heart2Home, and all who were involved, please pass this mesage on to all that you know.

It was 4 years ago today, that Vickie and I and our girls came home to this beautiful new home thanks to the efforts of all of you. The house literally changed our lives. It has allowed me to still be home with my family, even as this Occulodento digital dysplaia continues to progress. If we would be in the old house. I would have had to go to a nursing home. Instead I'm in my home, with my family. In the meantime Vickie has been able to go to work for the State of Utah as a Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor for the Deaf and Hard of hearing, and received her masters degree this May. We've been able to make some improvements, and continue to be so thankful for all of the help we recieved. Please receive our thanks again, and celebrate our fourth anniversary with us, thanks to your efforts.

COMMUNITY WELCOMES BACK GLEASON FAMILY

After a massive 5 day project the Gleason’s returned to their new home Friday October 8th at 5pm. The Gleason’s were met by hundreds of family members, neighbors and contractors waiting to welcome them home. The project had over 350 volunteers who gave of their time and talents to build a new 650 foot addition and remodel the existing home. Total value of the project is $70,000.
“The community has really rallied behind this family, we have so many people who come out and work and give of their time, and most probably do not even know the family,” said Sean Foote General contractor on the project.

The Gleasons were selected because of their 2 year old daughter, Presley. She suffers from a rare neuromuscular disorder. She has lost her ability to walk, talk and swallow. The new addition has a new family room, bedroom and bathroom that is ADA compliant.

Thank you everyone who helped on this project! The Gleason's are very grateful and want everyone to know how thankful they are.

Along with the Gleasons, 4 other families recieved room 'love overs' as well as the Now I Can therapy center. We will be spotlighting each family this week individually and show their makeovers as well so stay tuned!

Tomorrow will wrap up one of the busiest craziest weeks in Heart 2 Home History! We will have completed the Gleasons home makeover, The Now I Can Clinic makeover and 4 mini makeovers. We have been spread around the county but we have accomplished amazing things, As with every project there is plenty of magic around!

As far as tonight and tomorrow I anticipate a lot of painting and cleaning up. Please come if you can.

If you haven't been to the home recently, there are a lot of changes!

Our new needs list:
- A handful of guys who can wheelbarrow concrete to the back yard. That starts at 1 pm today.
- Later tonight or tomorrow, we need a landscaper. The yard was nice once, but it's trashed now so we'll need to put in a sprinkler system. We could do it by hand if needed, but a landscaper with some tools will be very welcome. If you are a landscaper & have tools for this, please call Greg at 722-5202. The work could start tonight, but definitely by tomorrow.
- If we can't find a landscaper, we may need to dig it by hand. The yard is small and the soil easy to dig. A group of manly men could bang it out pretty fast. If you're a manly man, consider this a manly man alert - we might need you.

We have had so much support for the Gleason Makeover that we have decided to make this even bigger since we have the resources and the volunteers now! So, we made a call to Now I Can which is a therapy clinic which we were in competition with all summer in the APX gives back contest, and have decided to makeover a therapy room in their clinic. In addition, Now I Can has given us some names of 5 other children, like Pressley Gleason, who need help. We are so excited to announce that we will be doing 5 other projects along with the Gleason home! We are so excited to get the opportunity to help more children! We need to move the Make Over date back for the Gleason's Project to October 4th. It will be a one week change. Our great builder Sean has had some health concerns with his heart. He will still oversee the build on the Gleason project but we want to make sure his results are where they should be before he takes on this project. We are happy to announce our next family home makeover! Meet the Gleason family from Orem Utah! Mike and Mindy have struggled to care for their little 2 year old, Presley, who has an unidentified neuromuscular disease which because of RSV she contracted in February has left her in a wheelchair. Because of her medical condition, Presley's body shut down under pressure. She now requires the aid of half a dozen different medical machines, including a feeding pump and a ventilator to survive. Attached to machines and confined to a 200 pound wheelchair, it is nearly impossible for Presley to move around her parents' two story home.

Heart 2 Home Steps In To Help Family In Dire Need

As the evenings grow colder the Gleason family becomes more anxious. Cold weather means exposure to more germs. And more germs could hinder an already sick little girl.

Two-year old Presley Gleason became very ill from RSV last winter. The respiratory illness, combined with a neuromuscular condition have caused paralysis of her vocal cords, diaphram and degeneration of her muscles. Presley now has a gtube to feed her through her tummy, a trach and a ventilator attached at all times to breath for her 24/7. She has had back surgery, and is now also in a wheelchair. Her parents Mike and Mindy Gleason do breathing treatments 3-4 times a day, suctioning Presley with a machine to help her cough, as well as monitor her heart and oxygen levels at all times. But through it all little Presley smiles non-stop, blows bubbles, giggling and smiling all day long.

Because of their split-level home, the Gleasons must carry Presley and her ventilator, humidifier, oxygen, monitor, cough assist machine, suction machine, food pump and bag up and down based on the activities needed and space available.

Due to the dire needs of this precious little girl, Heart 2 Home will announce a very special time-sensitive home addition makeover to help this family through the cold months ahead. Our goal will to be add on to the existing home, creating a room on the main level that can accommodate a very special little girl.

We invite the media to join our team on Wednesday September 1st at 2:00 pm at the Gleason home as we surprise them with the announcement of a special addition makeover!

Heart2Home is excited to announce that we will be making over the Dream Center In SLC. We first became aware of Pastor Alfred 4 years ago when we remodeled his 27 foot trailer for Utah Partners for Health for a mobile medical unit. That trailer now travels the state providing medical attention to thousands of underprivaledged Utahns. Pastor Al has programs that help so many people and we are really excited about the upcoming event. We do not have a date, however. Since we blind sided Pastor Al on Good Things Utah, we didn't get to talk to him about when it would be best to start working. The Dream Center is very busy so we will need to talk to him and plan out when they would be able to handle the makeover and still help the people they help every day. The home is up, the rooms are being painted, beds and dressers are being carefully chosen by each room. We're getting close to the end.

We are starting the home stretch!

It's coming along!

As you can see, the shingles are almost done and they are starting to brick the exterior here soon!

The house is sheetrocked, taped and mudded. We are ready for paint!

Today we are starting to focus our attention to the Kitchen home next door who are the parents of the Keusters. We are widening hallways for wheelchair accessability as well as updating the master bedroom and the kitchen.

Thank you to all who are donating food to our workers. As you can tell, they are really grateful and happy to have food!

As of right now, we are getting ready to lay tile. We are ok volunteer wise on that but could use a cleanup crew. The site is getting filthy. Also, we need paint crews for tomorrow please come oon over!

Wow! Today was a rush!

Started bright and early with the BYU Football team carrying in and hanging drywall.

Thank you so much guys, we really appreciate your help.

The job site is just craziness! It's like an ant hill with little ants constantly coming in and out always working feverishly on top of one another. That's what makes this experience so fun. It's cool to see electricians, plumbers, dry wallers, contractors and volunteers all working together. Unforgettable!

And we have siding already! These guys are amazing!

Moments of note: A man drove by who happened to be the owner of an art gallery. He stopped, and asked if we needed some art for the house.
Also had another artist, Roger Whiting, call and volunteer to paint a mural for one of the children's rooms.

OREM -- As their home came down, things finally started to look up for the Kuester family, of Orem.
"Hopefully all the bad memories from last year are gone and we can start making some new ones," said Rick Kuester.
In October of 2009, the family's 9-year-old daughter, Samantha, died from complications of the H1N1 virus. Just two months later, an overloaded circuit sparked a house fire that destroyed nearly everything they owned.
But Monday morning, the family received help -- and hope -- thanks to the non-profit foundation Heart 2 Home. The Keusters had been chosen for a complete home makeover for their Orem house .
Heart 2 Home has raised over $2.5 Million for Utah families since it was established in 2004.
The Heart 2 Home organization builds and remodels homes for families who have come on hard times. Local companies donate all of the materials and labor.
"Nobody takes a paycheck, the contractors and builders included," explained Heart 2 Home President Greg Adamson. "It's something people just do to get involved in the community and help out where they can."
Monday's tear-down was an exciting day for the Kuesters, but also an emotional one.
"It's the only house Samantha knew," mother Jennifer Kuester said. "But it's a good step, a good step for our future."
The volunteers have big plans for the space and hope to provide more than just physical shelter.
"We want to provide a place the family can gather and not worry about fixing anything up," Adamson said. "A house where they can get together and move forward from the death of their daughter."
Volunteers are working on an extremely tight timetable for the home makeover. The big reveal is just 10 days away.

At 7:00am this morning the Kuester family's home tumbled as Jen and Rick Kuester and their 5 children looked on with mixed emotions. The family lost 9 year old Samantha to the swine flu last fall, then their home caught fire just before the holidays. The home and memories there were bittersweet.

Traffic was closed on 800 South to make way for the crowd and large equipment. The Jazz Bear sat behind the controls and took the first swipes at the asbestos removed walls. Then professionals took charge at leveled the remaining boards. Within only hours the demolition was hauled away and a large hole dug for a much larger domain.

Hearing that the Kuester Family of Orem was getting a new home, the Utah Jazz Bear is getting destructive. Monday morning at 7:00 AM the Jazz Bear will take the first damaging swipes at the burned residence of the Kuester Family. But rather than his actions being seen as destructive, the Heart 2 Home Team applauds his efforts!
Within the following 2 hours the home will be crushed and hauled away so that a new basement can be dug and foundation poured in the same day.
The Kuester Family lost 9 year old Samantha to swine flu in 2009 and later that year had an electrical fire consume their home leaving them homeless with five remaining children.

The home will be revealed and gifted to the Kuester family at 6:00 PM on April 23rd. The Heart 2 Home Foundation is still looking for donations of appliances and landscaping.

Announcing the next family to receive a home makeover! The Keuster family of Orem! We're knocking down the home and building another one in 10 days - this poor family lost their 9 year old daughter to swine flu in 2009 and just before the holidays their home burned down. We are ready to help! Come join us!

Here are some pictures of the damage the fire caused.

The demolition will be on April 12 with the reveal eleven days later at 5pm on April 23rd. We need help! Skilled or not skilled you are needed! Let's go do some good!

We have been receiving many letters from some of the families from the Women's Resource Center at UVU. We decided to post them so those of you who helped make their Christmas memorable would be able to hear what they had to say:
Dearest friends at Heart2Home-
There are no words to express my gratitude and amazement and your Christ-like example. You are truly angels among us and provided a much needed miracle. It was fabulous to work with all of you!
Now, on a personal note, as one of the single moms who you touched that night, I thank you from the bottom of my heart. Your kindness, generosity and love was so much more than I ever hoped for! For my children and I, these past 5 years have been a real struggle as we had to sell our home and move. We are so blessed to live with my mother but things are still difficult. Being a single mom has been a very humbling and painful (almost hopeless) experience, but I find myself fighting for a better future, a better tomorrow. I am priviledged to work with Peggy Pasin and the many other courageous women. I am so blessd to have 3 beautiful sons who truly are my strength, my hope and my life. Thank you again for an evening that will be remembered in our lives as perfect! May the Lord bless and keep you always. Aloha nui loa, Mahalo!

Heart2Home was approached by The Women's Resource Center at UVU to help 38 families have a memorable christmas. We invited people to donate either a gift or two or an entire family. The response was amazing. We loved doing it and hope to do it again next year. Take a look!

Thank you to all that gave to these sweet families. I know they will never forget it! Thank you ROC for the entertainment, Santa and his cute elf, Pat. And thank you to the girls at UVU for the opportunity! Merry Christmas!
